Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI)
The Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI) is a project supported by 60 stakeholders including paint manufacturers, recyclers, retailers, and Federal, state and local governments. Paint is a high priority material based on its high volume in the waste stream, subsequent costs to manage, and potential for increased reduction, recovery, reuse, and recycling. Dialogue participants have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that sets out 11 projects, at a cost of $1.2 million, which aim to reduce the generation of leftover paint and increase reuse and recycling opportunities. The MOU projects will run through September 2006 and provide information necessary for the development of a nationally coordinated leftover paint management system. For more information about the PPSI, and to obtain project results and updates, go to the Product Stewardship Institute website.
