Electronic Waste

Recycle your old video game consolesMuch of what we do on a daily basis depends on the use of electronic technology, which includes everything from TVs to computers to cellular phones. Technology is always changing, meaning that the shelf life for these devices shrinks by the day. But before you dispose of your old electronics, keep in mind that the circuit boards and electric switches inside of them contain both valuable and hazardous materials that don’t belong in a landfill.

You really have two eco-friendly options for disposing of your electronics: reuse and recycling. The best option if your electronic devices are in working condition is to donate or sell them to someone else who can reuse them. Not everyone can afford the newest video game console, so your old Nintendo is still of value once you upgrade. Donation will allow a charity organization to raise money from the sale of your system.

If the device is not in working order, it can still be recycled through a county event or an authorized e-waste recycler. Electronic recyclers can use various parts from these products to create new electronics, and circuit boards will often contain valuable metals like gold and copper.
