Learn About California’s Adopt-a-Beach Program
The Adopt-A-Beach Program, organized by the California Coastal Commission and cooperating organizations throughout the state, gives everyone the opportunity to learn about and actively participate in conserving coastal resources.
As part of the program, any group can “adopt” a local beach or coastal area for cleanup, restoration, or enhancement. When a group “adopts” a beach, they commit to caring for it throughout the year and cleaning it at least three times, although school groups can fulfill their obligation with a single cleanup. The adoption period is one year, and groups are encouraged to re-adopt the end of each year.
Adoption is simple. Just call us at (800) COAST-4U for an adoption application, and we will send you (1) the application, (2) a list of “adoptable” beaches and (3) the name of your local contact known as a Beach Manager. Once the application is completed, you will contact the appropriate Beach Manager, schedule your cleanup dates and receive supplies and instructions for your cleanup.
