California Launches New Product Stewardship Site

The California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) recently launched a new website offering the latest information on product stewardship and how consumers can be involved.  The website focuses on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), meaning that companies who design, produce and sell goods are responsible for minimizing the impact of those goods throughout their life cycle.

Consumers can visit the website and learn more about EPR for products such as batteries, fluorescent lights, paint, pharmaceuticals and tires.

“We welcome consumers, businesses and others, to our new website and visitors will be inspired by the incredible work and momentum in the effort to solve the growing waste management problem,” says Heidi Sanborn, executive director of CPSC. “With EPR legislation expected to be considered in California in 2009, our site is an excellent way to gather the information you need to be well informed and take action.”

The website also features detailed information on what specific industries and retailers are doing, the latest news and articles on product stewardship and information on existing policies and legislation.
