Recycled Fridge Art Contest Winners Announced

In case you missed the Recycle My Old Fridge exhibit at Washington D.C.’s National Building Museum last month, pictures of the winning designs have been posted online.

The campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and ENERGY STAR, encouraged artists to take obsolete refrigerators and create art exhibits. The judges honored three different entries:

  1. A Jackpot of Savings by Georgia Power
  2. Fridge-a-Tune by the Frederick, Maryland, Art Council
  3. Time to Unplug by Puget Sound Energy of Bellevue, Washington

Viewers also chose two different pieces to honor, They’re Coming to Take Me Away and How Long Has This Been in There?, both by the Scientists and Engineers for America.

You may not choose to turn your old fridge into an art exhibit, but recycling is an eco-friendly option. Use Earth911 to find refrigerator recycling locations in your area.
