EPA Releases Recycling Resource for the Southeast

U.S. EPA Region Four recently announced the launch of it’s new, online recycling resource, the Municipal Government Toolkit (MGTK).  The MGTK provides information specifically tailored to the assistance of local government leaders and recycling coordinators in Region Four, consisting of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and six Native American Tribes.

MGTK is a collection of economic data, sample legislation, waste reduction efforts, guidance resources and case studies, which elected officials can use to develop and expand their local recycling programs.  This information is broken into six key areas directly related to recycling in the Southeast: economic impacts, climate change aspects, community benefits of recycling, recycling hot topics and how to start and improve recycling programs.

The program also utilizes a new recycling logo, “Recycling Grows Green.”  The logo serves as a reminder that recycling can positively impact both the environment and local budgets.
