Wyndham Creates Uniforms From Recycled Bottles

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts recently released its plans to launch a line of uniforms for its hotel staff, which are made of polyester from recycled plastic bottles.

When plastic bottles are recycled, they are chopped into plastic flakes.  The plastic is then melted down and spun into fabric, creating a soft polyester.

Front desk and other customer-facing employees will begin wearing the uniforms by the end of 2009, with the remaining staff wearing them by 2010.  All staff at new properties will be required to wear the uniforms from the outset.

The uniforms also do not require professional laundering, which reduces the chemicals and cost to maintain them.

Wyndham is the first national lodging chain to mandate eco-friendly uniforms, designed and manufactured by Cintas Corporation.
