Fishing Line Recycling Bins Decorate the NH Coast

Loose monofilament fishing line can injure or kill wildlife and cause serious damage to boats. In an effort to reduce fishing line waste, the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation has launched a special coastal recycling program in New Hampshire, reports the Seacoast Online.
Monofilament fishing line recycling bins are being placed at various locations along the coast. The discarded material will be recycled into new fishing line or converted into electricity at a waste-to-energy plant.
It is important to keep the debris out of the water. Fishing line can take as many as 600 years to break down in nature, according to Jen Kennedy, Blue Ocean Society director.
Fishing line recycling bins have been successful in other states such as Florida and New Jersey.
