California Beaches Offer Plastic Recycling
California’s coastlines are encouraging beachgoers to recycle their plastic by offering free recycling bins at state beaches.
The partnership is a collaboration between California’s Department of Parks and Recreation, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and Keep California Beautiful (KCB). So far, 529 bins have been donated to beaches as part of the “Plastics. Too Valuable to Waste. Recycle” campaign.
Plastic bags are frequently one of the top coastal debris because their light weight allows them to travel easily by wind. Both plastic bags and bottles can be mistaken as food by marine animals who are unable to digest the material.
Even if you’re not headed to a California beach, you can figure out where to Beaches911 to monitor water quality at your local beach.
