Texas Company to Recycle Oil Site Water
Each year, nearly six billion barrels of contaminated water are thrown out after use at Texas drilling sites. It’s some of the harshest contaminated water in the world, reports CBS.
It is normally disposed of in deep injection wells because no other use is appropriate. However, STW Resources, a water reclamation company based in Midland, has developed technology to make this water safe for reuse.
According to the STW site, a patented thermal evaporation process cleans up the water. About 70 percent of the contaminated liquid is able to be reclaimed.
STW is working to contract with several oil and gas operators and has partnered with General Electric to install special water reclamation plants in West Texas, an area notoriously short on water.
