GM’s Green Scene in Detroit

General Motors Corp. celebrated July 16 the opening of a $15 million green dealership in suburban Detroit, reports Advertising Age.

The LaFontaine Automotive Group’s Buick-Pontiac-GMC and Cadillac dealership has many green features:

  • 85 skylights to make more use of natural light and reduce light bills
  • Doors made of corncobs and wheat
  • A system that allows 85 percent of its car-wash water to be recycled
  • The system also allows rainwater to be stored and used in landscape irrigation
  • Geothermal heating and cooling system

The facility will reduce the dealership’s operating bills and hopefully draw eco-conscious customers.

Susan Docherty, the Buick-Pontiac-GMC vice president, expressed confidence that customers will pursue the “360-degree green car-buying and car-owning experience.”
