Car hoods, shoes, dirty Huggies and deer carcasses. None of these items should be placed in a recycling bin, yet in Salt Lake County, Utah, they often are, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

The extra time it takes to remove all the garbage placed in bins makes recycling less efficient and more expensive for residents.

Larry Gibbons, sales manaer at Rocky Mountain Recycling, described a “blatant disregard for the guidelines.” And these are not little things like leaving the plastic liner in the cereal box. Sorters find everything from bicycles to plastic window blinds to dead pets.

Descriptions of items accepted for recycling can be found on tags placed on bins or at http://www.recycle.slco.org/.
