NYC Offers Five E-Waste and Clothing Recycling Events

Looking to recycle electronics in one of New York’s five boroughs? The New York City Department of Sanitation’s Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling has set up five e-waste and clothing recycling events throughout the spring.
Manhattan held the first spring event on March 16 that brought out 3,000 people. The other four boroughs’ events:
- Bronx—April 5-6 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Soundview Composting Site on Randall Avenue
- Brooklyn—May 18 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Prospect Park
- Queens—May 3 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the St. John’s University Alumni Hall parking lot
- Staten Island—April 12-13 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Fresh Kills Composting Site, 450 West Service Rd.
Electronic items accepted include:
- Computers/laptops and accessories
- Monitors/Televisions
- Printers/scanners
- VCRs/DVRs/DVD players
- Cell phones
All collected phones will be donated to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine(R) program, which benefits domestic violence advocacy groups. Business electronics will not be accepted.
Clothing items accepted include both clothing and linens. In addition, the Bronx and Staten Island events will provide free compost to interested parties, and sell compost bins for $20.
