Nassau Supermarkets Urged to Recycle Plastic Bags
by Earth 911 on March 24th, 2008
Newsday reports that Nassau County is looking to follow neighbors Suffolk County and New York City by requiring retailers to take back and recycle plastic bags later this year.
The bill would apply to stores with more than 5,000 square feet of real estate. They would be required to offer reusable bags or place in-store bins for recycling plastic bags.
One sponsor of the bill wants it to also cover retailers taking responsibility for advertising flyers.
