Kodak, Wal-Mart to Recycle Picture Kiosk Consumables

Kodak and Wal-Mart are launching a national program to recycle used materials from in-store picture kiosks, including ribbons, spool and cartridges.

At 4,100 Sam’s Clubs and Wal-Mart stores that operate KODAK Picture Kiosks, the goal is to recycle two million pounds annually. That is the weight of approximately six, 250-passenger commercial airliners.

The KODAK Picture Kiosk allows consumers to make photo prints, greeting cards and more starting with prints, CDs or digital camera cards. The primarily used materials are polyethylene terphthalate (PETE) and polystyrene, which are recyclable forms of plastic.

Collected materials will be shipped to Wal-Mart Return Centers and processed for reuse. Kodak has also committed to reducing the packaging for these products before they are used.
