New Nike Shoe Made from Manufacturing Waste

Phoenix Suns’ player Steve Nash debuted the Nike Trash Talk shoe during last night’s basketball game, which is a new shoe made from recycled leather and rubber.

Among the new shoes eco-friendly highlights:

  • Leather and synthetic leather exterior from factory floor waste
  • Scrap-ground foam mid-sole from factory production
  • Rubber soles from footwear manufacturing waste
  • It comes in a 100 percent recycled content cardboard shoe box

All of these materials are also collected from old shoes as part of Nike’s Reuse a Shoe program. In this program, consumers send their shoes back to Nike and the materials are recycled into athletic courts and playgrounds.

The Nike Trash Talk will launch for the public on Earth Day, April 22, at the House of Hoops by Footlocker. To find a location near you to recycle/reuse shoes, use Earth 911’s recycling locator.
