Company Launches Project to Recycle Old Fishing Gear

The Gloucester Times features news of a program starting Monday where fisherman can drop off their nets and traps to prevent the gear from being dumped in the water.

The program is called “Nets to Energy,” because gear will be taken to a nearby energy-from-waste facility and converted into electricity for local homes. The article says that one ton of this gear can power a home for 25 days.

Gear will be collected at the Gloucester’s Jodrey State Fish Pier from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The partnership will allow the equipment to be disposed of without cost to the city.
