Trash Dance Kicks Off Annual Recycling Drive
Ohio University is kicking off the annual Recyclemania competition with the first annual Trash Dance, which will encourage attendants to dress up in costumes made of recyclable materials.
Instead of wearing clothes containing recycled content, the Trash Dance is a time for creative costumes such as newspaper skirts or light bulb earrings.
The goal is for the event to be zero waste, with china used for dishware and a disco ball made out of CDs. Proceeds will benefit student environmental organizations, and the University is hoping to make it an annual kick-off dance.
Ohio University is the original home of Recyclemania, which was started in 2001 as a recycling competition among U.S. colleges that now has over 400 participants.
