Barred From Burning, Officials Look to Recycle Wood Scrap

The Oregonian reports that Northern Idaho is looking to adjust to the ban on burning scrap wood with alternative options including grinding the trees into mulch.
Bonner County no longer burns scrap wood because of concerns over the air pollution created, and leaving the wood laying around creates extra kindling for potential forest fires.
One of the leading plans for the wood is to truck it to nearby Montana to mulch and burn it for electricity at a paper mill. Other options include using the wood chips to restore some of Idaho’s trails and prevent erosion.
While wood is not an ideal ingredient for compost bins, other green waste can be composted to create nutrient-rich soil.
