Students Learning Value of Recycling

The Lompoc Record features the story of Lompoc High School’s Recycle to Read program, where the school’s drama teacher collects and hauls bottles and cans to the local recycling center and raises $80 a week.
Lompoc High has recycling bins inside classrooms, and students from the school’s service organization collect the bins, separate the containers and empty any liquids and lids. Proceeds from the program are used to buy books for the school library.
Lompoc is not the only school to get involved in recycling. In Kent, Ohio, Stanton Middle School has partnered with Abitibi Paper Retriever to recycle paper in its parking lot. Ira Jones Middle School in Illinois has a similar program to recycle paper.
