Vendors Look to Ease Recycling Costs on Users
by Earth 911 on January 10th, 2008
PC World features highlights from a panel at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, where electronics vendors spoke about pushing a mandate that will make it less expensive for consumers to recycle electronics.
These companies are also striving to make recycling and reuse the top priorities in manufacturing, with the thinking that a legislative mandate would level the playing field for all manufacturers and reduce the amount that consumers pay to recycle their products.
By recycling electronics, manufacturers can produce new products that are less expensive since they can reuse certain components instead of remaking them from raw materials.
Many manufacturers have already created take back programs for their own products, and several retailers have begun recycling electronics regardless of who made them and where they were bought. To learn more about why it is important to recycle electronics, visit Earth 911’s Electronics page.
