HP to Reduce PC Energy Usage by 25 Percent

Hewlett Packard announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show that it is committed to reduce energy consumption by 25 percent for its volume desktop and notebook PC families by 2010.
The reduction in energy will be relative to models produced in 2005, and will measure energy consumed in “idle mode” in accordance with U.S. EPA Energy Star protocol.
HP expects to reach this goal through a variety of strategies, including integrating more efficient power supplies, lower-energy chipsets and other energy-saving technologies and processes in its products.
