Students Vie to Recycle Most Paper
by Earth 911 on January 8th, 2008
The Joliet Herald News profiles an Illinois middle school’s efforts to win a six-month paper recycling contest, which has already resulted in almost 7,000 pounds of paper recycled.
Ira Jones Middle School started recycling in December, as part of a contest put on by Abitibi Consolidated Recycling Company. If it wins, the school will receive $200 toward building a new outdoor classroom and the class who recycles the most will receive a free breakfast.
The school has also set up two bins for community members to drop off their own paper. The contest ends on March 31. To showcase your own recycling efforts, enter the 2008 American Forest & Paper Association’s Recycling Awards, which is accepting applicants until January 31.
