Recycle Your Holiday Waste Using Earth 911
by Earth 911 on January 4th, 2008
Now that your Christmas presents are opened and the decorations are off the tree, remember the environment when you are taking care of the extra waste output from the holidays.
Household waste increases more than 25 percent from Thanksgiving to New Years Day, and much of that waste can be recycled or taken to collection events so that it doesn’t end up in a landfill. Here’s a few important notes to remember:
- Be sure to recycle your Christmas tree using Earth 911’s Treecycling search database, presented in partnership with the National Christmas Tree Association.
- If you got a new cell phone, computer, television or other electronic device as a holiday gift, make sure you dispose of your old one in an eco-friendly manner. These devices contain hazardous materials that don’t belong in landfills, so they should be recycled at a community event or through a take back program.
