MoreThanWaste.com reports that British celebrity Anna Ryder Richardson is joining the campaign to recycle 100 million Christmas cards throughout the country.

Richardson is a designer on BBC’s Changing Rooms, and she joined the campaign because of her passion for sending and receiving Christmas cards.

Each card collected will be sold to paper mills and recycled, with proceeds from the sale used to plant thousands of trees in the United Kingdom. Currently the UK is only 12 percent woods, while the European average is 44 percent.

Previously, British actress Joanna Lundley joined this campaign. To learn more about the benefits of recycling paper, visit Earth 911’s Paper Recycling page. For more on how to respond to the increase in waste over the holidays, visit Earth 911’s Green Your Holidays section.
