Local Business to Recycle Food, Packaging for Organic Waste
by Earth 911 on December 28th, 2007
The Morning Journal reports on Erie County, Ohio’s newest recycling venture as Barnes Nursery and Garden Center will create organic soil from biodegradable packaging and food waste provided by county businesses.
The nursery will take in up to 2,000 tons of food scraps per year, including paper cups and plates and liquids like beer and wine. It will pay the county $5 per ton for the material to compensate for the lost of landfill tipping fees.
There are currently no plans to open up this service to individuals. For more information on the benefits of composting your food waste, visit Earth 911’s Compost section.
