Nearly Impossible To Recycle A TV
by Earth 911 on December 27th, 2007
Syracuse’s NewsChannel 9 reports on the city’s shortage of television recycling options, as the nearest EPA approved location that takes in the glass tubes is located in Pennsylvania.
Television glass often contains cadmium and lead, which are harmful to the environment if disposed of in a landfill. However, these materials are not valuable enough for Onondaga County to ship them to Pennsylvania without charging consumers a higher disposal fee.
Two possible options for TV recyclers are commercial recycling programs and take back programs. For the nearest commercial recycling program in your area, use the Earth 911 search locator at the top of this page.
