Wired.com reports that the College of the Atlantic in Maine has successfully reduced its carbon footprint to zero by purchasing enough carbon offsets to cover the school’s greenhouse gas output.

The College of the Atlantic is the first of 450 higher education facilities in the U.S. to achieve carbon neutrality; the 400 person campus was already ranked the greenest college by Grist.

To offset its carbon dioxide output, College of the Atlantic has invested in a project called The Climate Trust that reduces the carbon emissions of cars by optimizing stoplights.
