City to Order Thousands More Recycling Bins
The Baltimore Sun reports that the city of Baltimore went through 10,000 recycling bins in a weekend as thousands of people stood in line to buy bins as part of the city’s single-stream recycling program that starts in January.
The bright yellow containers were on sale for $5-6, which will allow residents to recycle materials in one bin instead of sorting them out starting January 8, 2008.
The city invested $100,000 in the new bins, and the additional bins being ordered will be available in three weeks. For more information on the benefits of curbside recycling, visit Earth 911’s Curbside Recycling page.

Uh, yea. I remember standing out in January waiting to buy a recycling bin. I think they ran out in the first 2 hours. A city of 600,000 and only 10,000 bins ordered. Baltimore City waste management needs to stop patting themselves on the back and give us more than a token recycling program.
