Recycling Getting Easier at Curbside, Inside Stores

The San Mateo County Times reports that South Bay Area residents will now have the option of recycling batteries and cellular phones as part of their curbside programs.

The South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) developed this new feature for curbside recycling in response to the Universal Waste Rule in California, whereby all residents must recycle hazardous materials including mercury.

These newly accepted materials must be placed in separate bags before they are added to recycling bins. Other electronics are still not part of the curbside programs, and must be recycled at the SBWMA recycling center or other events.

To find out how to recycle electronics in your area, use the recycling locator search at the top of this page. For more information on recycling electronics, visit Earth 911’s Electronics page.
