Los Angeles Partners with Jiffy Lube to Recycle Batteries

Twenty eight Los Angeles-area Jiffy Lube locations have partnered with the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (DPW) to collect and recycle household batteries from Los Angeles residents.
Over 900,000 household batteries are improperly disposed of each year in Los Angeles, leaking chemicals that can contaminate air, water and even food.
“We all need to do our part to help keep LA’s air and water clean and safe. Recycling household batteries is an easy way to help clean up our environment and now Jiffy Lube is helping to make it easier to do that in the City of Los Angeles,” said City Council President Eric Garcetti.
Each of the participating locations will display a white container for AA, AAA, C cells, D cells and button batteries (hearing aid and watch batteries). The batteries will be picked up by the DPW and recycled.
“Jiffy Lube collects more used oil than any company in North America—approximately 450 gallons every week at each of our stores in LA alone, so offering our customers the convenience of recycling their household batteries is our natural extension of our mission to be a good community partner,” said Robert Curry, president of the Jiffy Lube Southern California Cooperative and owner of eight participating stores.
The program is expected to reach more than two million people through Jiffy Lube in-store communications alone. Additionally, the DPW will provide information through their monthly, mobile drop-off facilities.
