Chicago Students Compete to Recycle Hanukkiot
The Jerusalem Post features a response to the campaign started last week about Hanukkah celebrations increasing global warming with a story about a group of Chicago students making their own menorahs out of recycled products.
The Green Menora Contest is an art project where students design eco-friendly an menorah from recycled materials, many of which have been donated by Columbia College’s art school.
The Green Hanukkia campaign started to educate people to the fact that each candle burned produces 15 grams of carbon dioxide. The irony is that the original story of Hanukkah surrounds conservation, in that a candle with enough oil to stay lit for one day ended up burning for eight.
