Who Recycles the Most?

TriCities.com conducted interviews with the EPA, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and solid waste directors to determine which age group is the most active at recycling, with the conclusion that it all really depends on the source.
The article cites a June 2007 Harris Poll that interviewed 2,300 people of different age groups and regions on their recycling stance, finding that 30 percent of those aged 18-30 don’t recycle at all. This is contrary to the idea that young people are the future leaders of the environmental movement.
When talking to officials from Tennessee drop-off sites, the consensus was that people in the 40-60 range were the least active recyclers. Conversely, senior citizens were the most popular contributors at these sites.
Regardless of age, anyone interested in recycling should check out Earth 911’s Recycling section to learn more. To find a recycling center or service near you, type in your zip code and product in the locator box at the top of this page.
