S.F. Program Recycles Restaurants’ Cooking Oil for Use as Fuel

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the city has launched a new website called SFGreasecycle, which will provide free pickup of cooking oil and grease from restaurants and hotels in the San Francisco area to be converted into biodiesel.
The site is sponsored by the Public Utilities Commission, which is concerned about grease being dumped into sewers that results in $3.5 million in spending to clean out clogged pipes.
San Francisco currently has 1,500 diesel vehicles that are likely to benefit from this program, including city buses and fire trucks. The city currently has several private firms that pick up grease and convert to biodiesel, but they currently only reach about 10 percent of the cities 4,000 restaurants.

Do you have similar plans for the homeowners? Biofuel producers pay for used oil, at least here in South Africa, so this is another opportunity for an entrepreneur.
We have been providing this service for homeowners for a while now. How many of you homeowners pour your used cooking oil down the drain without thinking twice? Until we started, everyone did.
