Got Books Wins 2007 MassRecycle Award

Worcester, Mass.—MassRecycle, the Massachusetts Recycling Coalition, announced the recipients of the 2007 Green Binnies presented at MassRecycle’s Awards Celebration on Tuesday, October 30, at the DCU Center in Worcester. Individuals and organizations throughout the Commonwealth were recognized for their outstanding contributions to recycling and reuse in
the state.

Got Books AwardThe Recycling Business Green Binnie Award was given to Got Books of North Reading. According to MassRecycle, Got Books earned the award by providing “outstanding book collection and processing services to both commercial and residential generators of recyclable material (books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes).”

Award officials also said that Got Books “developed, maintain, and has grown an exemplary in-house book reuse system that maximizes waste diversion.”

Got Books is currently preventing over 200 tons of books per month from being thrown away. A year ago, its residential pick-up service volume was 25 per day but has since grown to over 100 Massachusetts residential pickups per day.

Of the book donations collected, roughly 80 percent of items are then re-circulated and reused through a weekly Charity Book Sale with money being raised for local nonprofits. Bob Ticehurst, Got Books President, accepted the award.
