Live Earth Issues Final Assessment

The organizers of this year’s Live Earth campaign, which reached over two billion people on all seven continents on the effects of climate change, have issued a final report summarizing the effects of the concert series in its first year.
The 22-page report covers many elements of the concert and its 10-month planning process. The planning and execution emitted a total of 19,708 tons of carbon, 87 percent of which was from audience travel by attendees the day of the event.
The festival generated 97 metric tons of waste, but 81 percent of this was either recycled or composted. The report also breaks down this information by venue, with New York generating the most waste and having the worst waste diversion rate, having the lowest public transportation participation.
The report also takes a comparison of the impact of other large public events, such as the Super Bowl and the Olympics. It makes reference to another Live Earth event in the future, but it doesn’t specify a date or more details.
