Beauty of the Green Building Expo
On Saturday October 6th, I ventured out to the Scottsdale Green Building Expo and it was worth it!
I was looking for more than just skincare and cosmetics; I was looking for the beauty of where and how we live. Suddenly solar panels and xeriscapes became gorgeous!
All of the vendors participating (there is a full list available on the Green Building Expo website) have taken reducing, reusing and recycling to a higher level while maintaining a user-friendly status. Unlike what Kermit the Frog said, it is easy to be green!
The Earth-friendly beauty that shone the most was the solar panel display, and it had a perfect sunny and warm day to shine. When it comes to our skin and the sun, we get our ability to absorb vitamin D from the sun (just remember to put some sunscreen on).
I visited with the Whole Foods vendor because the stores have an amazing and easily accessible variety of botanical body products in the stores. This booth was handing out Burt’s Bees samples and reusable shopping bags, plus stores give a credit of five cents off of your grocery bill when you bring in to recycle your plastic shopping bags.
If you visit the Whole Foods website, sign up for Flavors to get a free monthly ezine about what current events and demos are happening in the store (such as the Mineral Fusion powder foundation that has an in-store demo coming up soon).
These are great to attend so you can meet the vendor artist and experience the product before you buy it.
On the path to the Scottsdale Center For The Performing Arts where the indoor vendors were located, I stopped at a “filling” station for people, the O Premium Water stands that had 100 percent post consumer recycled paper cups for use in refilling people.
The body is 70 percent water and staying hydrated helps fight off Father Time and signs of age. The recommended eight servings of eight ounces of water per day is right on!
Inside the Center, I continued to meet with many vendors offering the best in our local municipalities eco-friendly living.
Claudia Biondi of Eco Fine Living shared the value of having an “eco-broker” that could find homes and communicate the energy cost savings of the home, or the indoor air quality and health benefits of the property while emphasizing the building orientation and landscaping features that are saving water and protect soil erosion.
The eco broker promtoes healthier, cost effective and green practices in real estate. Who knew until today!
This year’s Green Building Expo is over, but there is always next year to look forward to if you didn’t make it out to this free, family friendly, learning and experience event. I’ll see you in the beauty aisles!
