Sustain Mizzou Helps Tailgaters Recycle

The Maneater profiles the recycling efforts at the University of Missouri’s first home football game this year, where 700 recycling bags were walked around the stadium to collect recyclables from pre-game tailgaters.

Sustain Mizzou also had 250 recycling containers outside the stadium, but the goal of the campaign was more than just to collect recyclables. Volunteers were also educating tailgaters about proper recycling techniques, but that didn’t stop bags from containing some trash mixed in with the recycling.

Recycling at sporting events and tailgates is becoming more common these days, and this is not the first year that Sustain Mizzou has been collecting recyclables at football games. In 2005, the group collected 12 tons of materials and in 2006 it collected 19 tons (with one more home game). To learn more about Sustain Mizzou, visit the group’s website.
