Compost Yourself: Coffee, Cremes & You
Would you like to know a few facts about cellulite before I begin telling you eco-friendly ways to reduce the spot or two that you may have on your body? Here they are:
- Few women are exempt from cellulite
- Cellulite doesn’t discriminate
- Fat cells are there to stay
- At the beginning you see no cellulite, even when you pinch your skin. Then, you see it when you compress the skin. Then it’s visible when standing, finally it’s visible no matter what.
- Diet and exercise won’t always fix it
- Cellulite is more than just an eyesore . . . it decreases circulation in certain areas of the body.
- There’s no guarantee; what works for one gal may not work for another
- Some well-known preventative measures include Pilates and a salt-free diet which makes fat cells swell
A lesser-known measure to reduce cellulite is the application of brewed coffee grounds applied like a body scrub. Take a handful of the grounds and rub vigorously in circles on any area that you would like to see some shrinkage. The caffeine in the grounds helps shrink the cells, reducing the appearance of cellulite and minimizing dimples.
Now . . . a word of caution from the plumber and me: a teaspoon of brewed grounds once a month can help reduce pipe odors. Too much can clog the pipes and require the plumbers services. Plan ahead before you start your coffee ground cellulite therapy and buy a small netted strainer to cover the drain with. You can get these at any hardware store, or at Walmart in the bathroom fixture aisle.
I know you are thinking, “What about results? When will I see results?” Like all good things, it takes time. A consistent routine of three to four treatments per week joined with salt reduction in your diet (this means absolutely no diet drinks at all) and exercise, you will begin to notice the difference in the dimpling of the skin in about six weeks. Remember, it took longer to get there, so the effort is worth it!
Don’t drink coffee but have dimples? What to do!
Starbucks does an awesome job of providing coffee grounds for the taking, Even if you don’t order anything and just want to pick up a bag of grounds, they are free for your use.
If it were me one morning while getting java’d up, (grande quad soy mocha, yes with whip to be exact) I ask for a bag of grounds. Some stores have them already available on a table next to the drink order pick up window. If you brew your cup of joe at home, it’s the same principle of taking the used grounds from the coffee maker, putting them into a bowl, and taking them to the shower. Just grab a handful and rub onto dry skin in a circular pattern, vigorously.
The advantage to using coffee grounds over other methods is that it’s promoting reuse of your coffee remains.
For the most eco-friendly results, do your coffee ground cellulite routine, then scoop up what gets stuck on the drain trap, put the grounds back into the bowl you carried into the bathroom and take it outside so that the grounds can eventually end up enriching the soil of your garden and plants.
I share this with you because I liked the information and every gal I know has this challenge. Especially in the summer time with wearing shorts; which in Arizona lasts from May to November. Plus, I just saved you anywhere from $68-80 dollars on a tube of cellulite creme!
Eat some chocolate, rub some Starbucks coffee grounds on your butt and then go to Pilates!
